How to Get to Seven Magic Mountains from Las Vegas!

I went on a desert adventure from Las Vegas to Seven Magic Mountains on my trip to Sin City. I took an Uber there to make the journey easy since Seven Magic Mountains is only a 25-minute drive from the strip. But I ended up learning that that was probably not the best way to get there.

If you want to know how far is Seven Magic Mountains from the strip while making the most of your time, look no further! There are three major ways to reach the stunning art installation without much hassle. You can rent a car, join a tour group, or take a rideshare just like I did.

During my trip, I made a few mistakes. When we finally reached the art installation, it took us four tries to find a driver who was willing to go out there and bring us back. I got a bit worried, thinking I might end up stranded. Luckily, someone agreed to pick us up. But don’t worry, I’ll share with you the best ways to avoid such situations.

Whether you’re a local or a visitor looking for an unforgettable experience, but concerned about distance, cost, or traveling without a car, don’t sweat it. I’ve got you covered. I’ll guide you through the best ways to explore the mountains and make the most of your trip.

What Are The Seven Magic Mountains?

The Seven Magic Mountains is a desert art installation featuring 7 painted boulders that are up to 35 ft. high by Ugo Rondinone. The exhibition came to life on May 11, 2016, and was only supposed to be on view for two years. But there was a massive popularity for the painted rocks that the producers asked for permission to keep the art standing longer.

Seven Magic Mountains Cost and Parking

The Seven Magic Mountains are a must-see attraction that is completely free to visit anytime. These vibrant and towering structures are set up out in the open, welcoming anyone to stop by and enjoy their beauty. Conveniently, there is a parking lot right next to the art installation that is also free for visitors to use. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience this captivating display without any cost!

Opening Times?

You can visit the Seven Magic Mountains at any time, even at night, as the site is unfenced, allowing you to walk in at any hour. However, please note that there are no lights on the display, making it difficult to see during nighttime.

Car Rental

If you’re heading to Las Vegas and already planning on renting a car, you’re in luck! Just take a straight shot down I-15 south and you’ll reach the destination in 25 minutes. The best part is the scenic views along the highway are absolutely breathtaking.

Now, if you’re planning to spend most of your time on or around the strip, renting a car might not be the most practical choice just to go from Las Vegas to Seven Magic Mountains. The bus and monorail can get you where you need to go.

However, if you’re eager to explore the most popular attractions outside the city like the Hoover Dam, Valley of Fire State Park, and Red Rock Canyon, I highly recommend using Rentalcars.com. They offer the most affordable car rentals, making your adventure even more enjoyable!

Rideshare

We decided to take an Uber to check out the mountains. It cost us $45 each way, including tips. Originally, I wanted to book the same driver for the return trip and even pay for waiting time. But the app wouldn’t connect me with the same driver. So, we had to call for a new person to pick us up.

To avoid this mistake, when you book your trip, make sure to add a stop for your return journey, whether it’s back to the hotel or wherever you’re headed next. Look at the image above for a sample of what it would be like if I were leaving from a hotel and heading back there after the visit.

Simply put it should be 1. pick up location, 2. 7MM, 3. drop-off location. Trust me, it would have saved us 15 minutes of freezing in the cold for the next driver. I stress this because most drivers are not willing to make the drive out there so it can be tricky to find someone who accepts your pick-up offer.

In the end, the whole trip cost us $90 for the two of us. Honestly, that’s a bit steep for a free art installation adventure, in my opinion. That’s why I wouldn’t recommend this option as the best one, mainly because of the price. Of course, if you’re splitting the ride with three others, it would be $30 each to see the mountains. But, that’s up to you to decide if it’s still worth it.

Group Tour

There are so many bucket list things to do outside of Las Vegas so I highly recommend a group tour to get to Seven Magic Mountains. There are three awesome options that I think are the best choices.

The first option is $50 per person and includes a stop at the iconic Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign.

The second tour lets you experience the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign, Seven Magic Mountains, and The Hoover Dam all at once for just $70.

If you’re looking for an even more extensive experience, the third tour combines the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign, Seven Magic Mountains, The Hoover Dam, and even the Grand Canyon, all in a single day! It’s priced at $200.

By joining a group tour, you’ll get to visit multiple attractions with a knowledgeable guide who can share some great insights. Plus, transportation is included with hotel pick-up available.

Personally, I didn’t go for a tour because I had limited time on the day I planned to visit the Seven Magic Mountains, which also coincided with my flight back home. But looking back, I realize I could have easily squeezed in a visit to the Hoover Dam.
